Internship Details:
live on farm private housing included, farm hand. 3 days/week (21 hours/week)
Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday 9-4
Position may continue into Winter for the right fit. Option to continue on to full growing season position in coming year.
-Tuesday: Morning harvest, wash & pack for wholesale accounts. Afternoon garden work
-Wednesday: Full day of garden work
-Friday: Morning harvest for market. Afternoon of wash and pack, late afternoon garden work.
Tuesdays & Fridays are our harvest days and Wednesday is our big garden work day, it benefits us to train farm hands on both of these unique days for a well-rounded learning experience. We are looking to hire one helper to work all three days.
-Garden Work:
Garden days are rigorous and a great work out. We like to keep a steady pace, but not rush. You will typically be working side by side with either one of the farm owners or our main farm hand, for a full learning experience and freedom to ask all the questions! However, we do expect that once trained, you are able to perform projects and tasks solo as well. Garden work consists of: Bed preparation, moving tarps, composting, mulching, cultivating, transplanting, plant propagation, seeding, and hand weeding.
-Harvest:
Fast paced, but mindful: harvesting, washing and packing. Requires strong attention to detail and passion for cleanliness and quality. We typically train you on each crop thoroughly then set you free to harvest that crop solo once you feel confident. During different times of the season our harvest may last the full day or we often finish early. This results in an afternoon of garden work.
-Post-harvest:
Fast paced, but mindful, managing the flow of getting crops organized, recording what’s been harvested/needs harvesting and packed into the cooler. Washing, packing and cleaning up wash/pack shed. Requires strong attention to detail and passion for cleanliness and quality.
Educational Opportunities: You will typically be working side by side with one of the farm owners for a full learning experience and freedom to ask all the questions! Lots of hands on experience and knowledge of biointensive market gardening.
