General Farm Description: The Mandaamin Institute, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that has been breeding corn in Wisconsin since 2011. Walter Goldstein founded the organization after working 25 years as Research Director at Michael Fields Agricultural Institute. “Mandaamin” means Corn, or Corn Spirit, in the native Algonquian languages spoken by people who lived in Wisconsin when Europeans arrived. This name is appropriate for us because we use ancient varieties of grain to enhance the quality and sustainability of modern corn crops.

Internship Details:

We are seeking and will hire an intern for the seven month growing season (May through November).  We are looking for a physically capable and practical person with some experience with agriculture, machinery, and biodynamic/organic practice.  That person should have an interest in plants, plant breeding, and in working outside.

Educational Opportunities: This intern will be trained by Walter Goldstein in aspects of farming, seed breeding and seed production. 

Skills Desired: They will assist Dr. Goldstein and technicians in all phases of the work breeding maize.  The position is for seven months with possible extension.  

Meals: Meals and housing will be provided in lieu of $6450 stipend

Stipend: Costs are figured at $17,200 for salary
