We believe everyone has the right to healthy food in their neighborhood and on their table. School Lunch Farm offers programs to educate children and adults to be stewards of the earth through organic growing, understanding of where food comes from, how it’s grown, healthy eating, and the effects of food production has on the environment.

Job Description – Organic Farm Assistant Farm Manager
School Lunch Organic Farm & CSA is seeking an Assistant Farm Manager from Spring to Fall of the 2022 season. Ideal candidates is interested in running their own farm in the near future, a career in agriculture, sustainability, or environmental work. The Assistant Farm Manager position is for a highly self-motivated individual, who embraces hard work, can work in any conditions, and is ready to take on more responsibility in a farming operation. Candidate should have a minimum of 2 years experience in organic or sustainable vegetable production. The Assistant Farm Manager in partnership with the Farmer-Owner will be responsible for greenhouse work, fieldwork, and CSA distribution. The Assistant Farm Manager will help train, direct and work with apprentices, interns and volunteers.
Educational Opportunities: Educational Opportunities: Daily Responsibilities: ● Seed starting in greenhouse, thinning seedlings, and nutrient application. Direct sowing in fields. ● Bed preparation: rock picking, cultivating, back pack flaming, weeding, and working with drip irrigation ● Record keeping ● Foliar spraying of crops for feeding and pest control ● harvesting, cleaning, and storing vegetables ● Tractor and implement safety, maintenance, hookup, calibration and operation ● Farm Upkeep: mowing tractor ways and grass borders, weed-whacking, building, repairs, painting ● Working with apprentices, interns and volunteers—adults and children ● Direct sales at Farmer's Market
Skills Desired: Knowledge of most of these areas is desired: soil fertility, direct seeding, transplanting, cultivation, mechanical tillage, irrigation management, disease & pest control, crop rotation, routine equipment maintenance and daily record keeping. The ideal candidate would be available to start in April/May 2022. The assistant Farm Manager candidate should have some mechanical skills, a valid drivers license, and the ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
Meals: Vegetables provided
Stipend: $16- $18 per hour
