Internship information
General Farm Description: Cobblestone Farms is a non-profit market garden and livestock farm operating in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Our goal is ultimately to make Northwest Arkansas a better place to live, and have fun doing so. We specifically feel we can play a part in that by taking care of the people and the land here. Our production team accomplishes these goals by practicing regenerative small scale vegetable growing techniques, donating a substantial portion of our harvest to the local food bank, and teaching others how to grow and care for vegetables. We utilize a minimum tillage practice with emphasis on promoting soil biology as well as a balanced above ground ecosystem. We grow inside a fenced in 2 acre plot utilizing just under 1 acre of bed/path space. In 2023, we will be hosting a 30 member spring/summer CSA as well as a 30 member Fall CSA. We have 80 100’ X 30” beds in production and about ⅓ of those beds are in high tunnels and caterpillar tunnels. This season we will grow over 35 different vegetables throughout the year and donate the majority of produce to local food banks. We operate a pasture based livestock program where we raise broilers, sheep, goats and pigs. Our livestock program is new to our operation and is growing. In 2023, we will raise 600 broilers, 60 pigs and a sheep flock of 12 ewes. Our animals spend the vast majority of their lives on pasture and we rotate them to new paddocks daily to weekly depending on species.

Internship Details:

Currently 1 full time and 1 part time position available. The full time position will be 35-40 hrs/week on average with longer days in the summer and shorter days in the shoulder seasons. The part time position will be roughly 20 hours a week, give or take, and will run Tuesday through Thursday, and occasional weekend check-ins. We will all take turns watering the farm on the weekends so occasional weekends are required, but your availability will be taken into consideration when determining that schedule. We require a one season commitment as you work alongside a growing farm. Tasks include the typical market garden work days with harvesting, planting, starting seeds, caring for seedlings and managing irrigation around the farm, washing/packing vegetables, weeding, adding amendments and balancing soils, greenhouse management, and as many other tasks that are needed on a busy market garden! We would prefer market garden experience but we can work with someone that has some garden knowledge and a good work ethic. This position is labor intensive and regularly requires carrying up to 50lbs several hundred yards, moving heavy loads of compost onto beds, and plenty of bending, kneeling and squatting. These roles will also work with our livestock program and responsibilities will include general care taking of livestock, infrastructure construction, picking up processed meat from our USDA processor and delivering to the local food bank. General care taking of livestock includes, but is not limited to feeding, moving, and administering basic veterinary care.
