Internship Details:
The Greer Farm is a diversified family farm of about 250 acres. For the 2023 season, we are looking for a qualified individual to join our team as an intern farmer. The job is available starting now. Intern will work about 40 hours a week (more or less depending on weather and what is going on), and will be involved in all aspects of our farm’s activity including soil prep, planting, harvesting, marketing, infrastructure work, mowing, weeding, egg collecting and cleaning, animal care (cattle, sheep, goats, poultry, swine, etc.), brush clearing, preparation for farmer’s market and attending the market, canning farm products in our commercial kitchen, farm marketing and more. We are looking for a hardworking person who needs little supervision. Our goal is to create a fun, educational work experience that supports our viable business. We do the bulk of our sales direct-to-consumer here at the farm and a large portion through farmers markets. We also deliver to Dallas every three weeks or so. Our daily farm life and work changes with the seasons. We maintain a fairly large inventory of meats in our freezers which we take to farmers markets and sell here at the farm. Farm life revolves around daily chores. These can be dull and repetitive, but also act as a solid grounding which keeps us anchored to the land. We are involved in agritourism and have a number of log cabins and a loft apartment we rent out to visitors wanting a farm experience. In June, we have a pick-your-own blueberry and blackberry field. In our commercial kitchen we make beef jerky, can many varieties of jam and jelly from things we raise. Also make sauces and pickled products. We have our own bee hives and pack our honey. Northeast Texas Community College and Texas A&M branches are nearby and offers a broad range of courses including sustainable agriculture. You would need your own transportation. Stipend paid to cover basic costs of internship. Housing provided. Meals may be cook your own. To apply respond by email to sidagreer@gmail.com. Included complete resume, work experience, references, photos of you, and a paragraph of why you want to be a farm intern. We prefer someone for most of 2023, but if you are limited please indicate how long you are interested in working. There will be a two week trial period. Non smoker. Non-illegal-drug user . No pets.
