General Farm Description: We are a small vegetable farm with a culinary slant in Monkton, Vermont. We grow for the Burlington Farmers Market, our CSA, and for restaurants around Chittenden and Addison Counties.

Internship Details:

The assistant manager will work closely with the farm manager. We are running a small crew this season that will likely consist of only the farm manager and assistant manager. The assistant manager will have their hand in just about every aspect of the farm – from greenhouse work, to field maintenance, to tractor work, to vending at the Burlington Farmers Market, etc. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to continue their farming education and who wants to take the next step in their career in agriculture. This position also carries the option for housing. There is a 3 season cabin on the property owned by our landlords that they make available for us to rent out to staff. The cabin recently had a heat pump installed to keep it cool in the summer and warmer on the shoulder seasons.

Hours:

  • 5 Days / Week (Tuesday-Saturday)
  • Average 40-50 hours / week 
  • Job will run from April until late October / early November

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions (cold, wind, rain, etc.)
  • Ability to repeatedly lift 50#
  • Good organizational skills and attention to details
  • Ability to problem solve on the fly
  • Strong ability to communicate, listen, and act as a member of a team
  • Ability to take direction and receive constructive criticism
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from the farm
  • Previous farming is required for this position

Job Responsibilities:

  • Seeding and transplanting
  • Weeding and field maintenance

  • Attend Farmers Markets
  • Harvesting
  • Washing / Packing 
  • Weedwhacking
  • Greenhouse work
  • Assisting in administering the CSA
  • Take the lead on the Donation CSA
  • Taking turns doing Sunday chores (watering, etc.)

Compensation:

  • Pay ranging from $16-19 / hour
  • Free veggies / fruits from the farm
