Internship information
General Farm Description: Folklore Farm is located in beautiful Washington County Maine, nestled into the bold, rocky coast on the banks of the Narraguagus River. It is small farm, with a footprint of 10 acres with 2.5 acres in vegetable production that aims to serve food pantries and folks in need. Folklore Farm is in the beginning stages of a partnership with Healthy Acadia, a local non-profit community health coalition that focuses on addressing critical health challenges our Downeast community faces, making it possible for all people in our community to lead healthier lives. Our partnership is developing to assist with getting more local produce in our food pantries and in the bellies of people who may not be able to afford nutritious food. The farm consists of a small heated propagation greenhouse, an unheated high-tunnel greenhouse and 2+ acres of row crops. Our primary crops are garlic, carrots, beets, beet greens, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, cabbage, kale, peppers, squash and swiss chard. We operate a small tractor for initial tillage, bed forming, and some cultivation but most weeding is done by hoeing. Everything we grow is washed and packed onsite. Currently, there are no farm animals residing at Folklore but we do have our wonderfully friendly companion Harry the chocolate lab that keeps us motivated on hard days. Dan is the sole operator of Folklore Farm, though his wife Lizzie will be a frequent visitor and helper as well as many friends in the community.CRAFT Member Farm? No

Educational Opportunities: You will learn about everything that goes into operating a small farm and can decide if you'd like a specific aspect focus of the operation to focus on. Folklore Farm is committed to food sovereignty and you will be a part of creating a more food stabile community for all Washington county residents.
