Internship Details:
Our interns play a key role in day to day farm maintenance of plants, animals and equipment. You will participate directly in weekly meetings in which we set goals and plan. In addition to learning about how our business is structured from the inside, you will have the chance to build skills in marketing, working with a team, and growing healthy plants, animals, and soils.
Activities for interns include: Starting plants from seed for the high tunnel, outdoor fields, and indoor aquaponics greenhouse; maintaining and innovating the aquaponics system; regular weeding and harvesting; farm-related construction activities and land clearing; animal feeding, watering, pasture rotation, and processing; interacting with customers during regular deliveries, farmers markets and farm visits; and land, soil and new cropland preparation.
Educational Opportunities: Interns will get hands on experience in animal husbandry, pasture management, butchering pork and poultry, working with a team in a small business setting, seed starting, permaculture and sustainability, small business management, and aquaponics systems.
Skills Desired: We are looking for dedicated, hard-working individuals who are thorough and have an eye for detail. Past work experience in a farm setting is not required, but we prefer to work with people who have a long term interest in agriculture and sustainability. Experience with machinery, animals, butchering, and harvesting is a plus.
Meals: We provide two hearty meals each day and access to our main farm kitchen facilities. We are an omnivorous household.
Stipend: We pay an "end of season" stipend to applicants that fulfill the entire term of their internship agreement.
Housing: Housing is provided for our interns either in a semi-private room at our main farm house or in camping facilities out at the farm. Shared transportation is available for interns with a clean driving record and ability to drive manual transmission vehicles.
