Internship Details:
We are a small farm production located outside of Irvine, KY. We have produce, livestock, meat and egg chickens, goats for land management, honeybees, draft teams for forestry and agriculture, and are in the process of opening a store in town to sell to the local community.
Our horticulture operation includes 4 hoophouses, 10 acres of planted fields, a grow room and hot house, and compost operation.
By way of example (not a comprehensive list!), we are currently growing corn, onions, potatoes, tomatoes, okra, herbs, bell peppers, shishito peppers, jalapeños, poblanos, cilantro, cucumbers, kale, tomatillos, watermelon, and cantaloupes. Our planted fall crop includes 5 varieties of winter squash, sweet potatoes, radishes, lettuce, turnips, broccoli, collards, kale and chard. We also have a modest cut flower selection.
We currently have three full-time and one seasonal employee dedicated exclusively to planting and harvesting (plus other employees for the remaining farm operations). The majority of our produce will go to our brick-and-mortar store once it opens. In the meantime, we can, pickle and preserve much of our produce and donate what we cannot use to local food charities.
Although we are not a certified organic farm, we use organic and sustainable approaches and minimize the use of chemicals and pesticides whenever possible. We value a candidate who will remain calm under pressure, anticipate needs before they arise, and is interested in working within a collective setting.
Our ideal candidate has 5+ years experience with farming and 3+ years experience managing a farm, preferably in Central Appalachia. The climate demands of Central Kentucky are very particular and it is crucial that our candidate understands and can implement a robust and sustainable planting schedule that is in sync with our environment.

We are committed to creating a work environment that supports, inspires, and respects all individuals and in which personnel processes are merit-based and applied without discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, age, disability, national or ethnic origin, military service status, citizenship, or other protected characteristics.
