General Farm Description: Pine Haven Farms is found in the picturesque rolling hills of Franklin County, VA not far from beautiful Smith Mountain Lake. We prioritize sustainable practices, environmental stewardship and having fun. Our farm is dedicated to regenerative agriculture practices, which involves a holistic approach to farming that focuses on improving soil health, promoting biodiversity, and reducing the use of harmful chemicals. Currently we have a growing cow calf operation, a laying flock and small orchard. In addition to that, we offer farm stay experiences in our "Barndominium and also have a group of log cabins on Smith Mountain Lake.

You will have the opportunity to work with our diverse range of animals, including cattle and poultry, while also learning about regenerative farming practices. In addition to the hands-on work, you’ll also be responsible for managing our social media and online presence, showcasing the farm’s beauty and daily activities to our online audience.
But that’s not all! We also offer farm stay experiences for tourists, and you’ll have the chance to learn about the tourism industry while helping to create unforgettable memories for our guests. You’ll be an integral part of the team, ensuring that our farm stays are enjoyable and educational.

The Pine Haven Farms Internship includes housing, internet, fresh fruit and vegetables, eggs and even meat products. The Franklin County area has fabulous entertainment options such as the Harvester Center and The Coves for music, all of the Water Activities available at Smith Mountain Lake, free access to Pine Haven kayaks, and a short drive to Star City of Roanoke. Educational Opportunities: Educational opportunities abound. You will learn how to husband a rotating cattle herd using low stress methods, manage a laying flock of pastured chickens, how to effectively grow a diverse vegetable garden, operate farm machinery from tractors to compact track loaders, run water pipe and build water systems, build high tensile electrified fencing, lead farm tours, market direct to consumers in person and online, learn about agritourism and Short Term Rentals. We also welcome your input on other educational opportunities you are interested in.

Skills Desired: No experience is required, but past experience will matter in the candidate selected. We can teach you all the skills you will need with the exception of social media skills. Experience in running socials will be strongly considered. Socials to include Instgram, Facebook, X and crafting online ads and managing a marketing budget.

Meals: We do not prepare meals, however, the candidate will have access to food grown and produced on the farm to prepare their own meals.

Stipend: A stipend will be offered based on experience between $1000 - $1750 per month. As proficiency is displayed in basic farm operations increases in the monthly stipend will take place. Hours will be 35 to 50 hours per week depending on the season. There may be opportunities for additional income when vacation rental season is busy and additional maintenance staff is needed for our short term rental properties. In order to be eligible for those opportunities, the candidate will need to shadow our staff at least three times while they turn a property. For a candidate that is able to satisfactorily complete at least four consecutive months, a bonus of $2000 will be paid.
