General Farm Description: Seed Peace/ Wild Mountain Seeds is a vegetable seed and market produce farm located in Carbondale, CO. We are focused on producing the highest quality produce and seed using minimal tillage and permaculture techniques. Wild Mountain Seeds is heavily focused on research and seed breeding, creating vegetable seed that is vigorous, adaptable and unique. Seed Peace is the Non-Profit arm of the organization that is working to "Accelerate the transition to regenerative farming in the Roaring Fork Valley through research, hunger relief, education and innovation." Internship Details:

Join Seed Peace and Wild Mountain Seeds and learn the necessary skills to grow seed and high quality produce organically in an alpine climate. The apprentices will participate in all aspects of farming from seed to table.

We are looking for 3 apprentices to join us for the 2023 harvest season! Ideal timeframe is (April 15th to May 1st – Nov 1st)

Type of work includes:
-growing healthy nursery starts
-minimal tillage and no till garden bed preparation
-direct seeding
-crop planning
-maintaining weeds and other garden pests
-pruning and maintaining greenhouse crops
-operating and maintaining alpine hoop house
-cover cropping strategies for soil maintenance
-interplanting and under sowing to maximize space and build soil
-using tarps for weed control
-breeding annual crops like (tomato, cucumber among others)
-breeding bi-annual crops like (carrot and onion among others),
-vegetable and seed harvesting
-post harvest washing and packing of vegetables
-distribution of vegetables to food banks
-Running farmers market and wholesale vegetable sales
-cleaning of vegetable seeds
-compost and compost tea making
-Marketing of seed and vegetables
-Management of a farm crew
-Formulating daily to do lists
-building efficient work flows

The apprenticeship at Seed Peace is a hands on educational experience where the apprentice completes tasks 5 days per week. A room in a shared apprentice house with internet and laundry is provided along with farm produce and a food stipend


Educational Opportunities: The farm apprentice will be learning the ins and outs of a small organic vegetable and seed farm, growing in cold climates, running a market stand, machine operation, low-till growing practices, building soil health and other farm related skills that will help them further their career in agriculture.

Meals: Yes. Interns are provided bulk organic grains (rice, beans, chickpeas, lentils), fresh farm produce and storage crops from last season are available for interns to use, and 100$ per month food stipend is provided as well. During the week days one person is designated per day to cook lunch and is encouraged to use ingredients from the farm.
