Internship Details:

Come be a member of our farm crew! The farm crew makes it all happen at Red Wagon! From planting and weeding, to harvesting, washing, and packing. You will do all sorts of farm work over the course of the season and will gain a lot of new skills by working with and learning from some very skilled members of our crew.

The farm crew is responsible for harvesting, usually daily, to fulfill commitments to our CSA members, farm store, and other customers. As a member of a harvest crew you will work with your crew leader and the rest of your harvest group to efficiently harvest all the items on the crew leader’s list.

We have very high-quality standards at Red Wagon Farm and we expect crew members to follow all of our procedures to ensure the highest quality produce. This can be an overwhelming amount of detail for some people. But you will learn a tremendous amount if you are willing to work with our team to achieve our goals.

You will also work on many other projects like transplanting, weeding, building caterpillar tunnels, etc.

You must be able to work efficiently at everything you do. We have a tremendous amount of work to accomplish every day. We need our whole team to be focused and constantly working on ways to improve everything we do.

One of the most important things in a farm crew member is a great attitude! This can be a hectic and stressful job. It can also be challenging at times like the mid summer when temperatures are hot and bodies are exhausted! But it can be a very positive experience when we have people with good attitudes. One person with a negative attitude can bring down the whole rest of the crew. You need to be able to roll with the ever-changing conditions of working on our farm. You also need to be able to resolve conflict and avoid creating conflict yourself.

You must be willing to do any job that is required at the farm. You will do lots of work in the fields. But you will also do things like empty trash and wash coolers. We all need to pitch in everywhere to get the job done.

Educational Opportunities: You will learn by getting hands on experience with many aspects of the farm such as: planting (using a water wheel transplanter, dibbler, hand transplanting), hand and mechanical cultivation, growing in caterpillar tunnels and greenhouses, harvesting, post-harvest handling, and distribution.

Skills Desired: Great attitude, willingness to learn, ability to follow detailed instructions and work efficiently.
