Internship information

General Farm Description: Whisper Hill Farm is a for-profit, certified organic farm, with an emphasis on employee equity and community engagement. Entering our 15th season, we intensively grows 4 acres of certified organic vegetables, herbs, and cut flowers, in addition to 4 acres of cover crops. We attend three Saturday farmers markets, one mid-week market in Charlottesville where we distribute to our CSA members, and we sell to local restaurants and health food stores.

Internship Details:

Employees will participate in all aspects of small scale vegetable production, including greenhouse work, transplanting, weeding, irrigation, harvesting, packaging, and marketing. Previous farm experience is not necessary, but comfortability doing physical labor in varying weather conditions is a must. Our ideal candidate has a strong work ethic and a strong interest in agriculture.

We will have a total of 7 employees for the 2024 season. We are currently looking to fill the following positions:

Assistant Manager -$40,000/10 month contract (please inquire about job description)

Crew Lead-$25,000/8 month contract (please inquire about job description )

Farm crew member-$2,000/month + off-farm housing

The farm is located 5 minutes from the town of Scottsville, 15 minutes from Charlottesville, and an hour and a half from Richmond. Our region has a strong community of sustainable farms — throughout the season employees will have opportunities to gather for tours of some of these operations in order to gain exposure to nearby farms.
