General Farm Description: Welcome! We are second generation farmers on an 80 acre farm located in beautiful Northern Idaho, cultivating 7 acres for vegetables. As well as another 5 for potatoes. All Certified Organic. We grow everything from lettuce to beets carrots garlic potatoes peas raspberries and much more! Simon, grew up on this farm learning all he knows from his father David Ronniger, who started the first Organic Seed Potato business. Internship Starts: April/May and Ends: October Number of Interns: 2-6 Minimum Length of Stay: 2-3 Weeks Meals: Vegetables from the garden are available for you. Fruit as well when is season. We supply staples such as rice and beans eggs and cheese. Skills Desired: Open to anybody. Looking for people who are adventurous and willing to work hard. Some familiarity with gardening or farming would great but not necessary. A love for the outdoors is a must. Mostly looking for passionate people who would love to learn as much as we can share! Educational Opportunities: Learn by hands on experience how to grow, harvest and sell organic vegetables and fruits. Once a week we have farm discussions. You will also get to participate in the local farmers markets. There are various projects from construction to greenhouse to the garden. Housing: We have three cozy cabins Different ones available at different times due to many people interning and traveling through. Our cabins have electricity, and there is a communal kitchen. They have a couch bed table sink etc. and are set up for movies. Preferred method Of Contact: Email or phone Internship Details: We are providing summer internships to anybody interested in organic farming and gardening. We will provide an opportunity to learn every skill involved in planting, growing, maintaining, irrigating, harvesting, marketing and selling organic produce to local markets. As a summer intern you will work our regular hours (8-4 Monday-Thurdays) mostly in the fields and gardens. When Market time comes, in late July, we work Fridays taking off Mondays. If you are interested in farmers markets, you are welcome to join us on Saturdays. We are located about 18 miles from town so having a car is convenient as biking takes about an hour or so. Also if interested in exploring bring your passport as Canada is just 30 miles north. Pets Ok. Just ask. We look forward to hearing from you! Certifications: ISDA Current projects: We are a vegetable farm, most projects are based around the garden or the pasture area. Sometimes building, processing the vegetables etc.
Educational Opportunities: Opportunities to learn how an organic farm works. Opportunities to learn each step from planting to harvesting. You can also learn skills such as fencing, tractor operation and more.
Skills Desired: Prior farm is experience is great but not required. Must be able to tolerate all weather, and willing to do the work even in rain, mud etc. We have a short season and generally need to get each weekly project done when scheduled. Must be able to lift 50lbs. Enjoying the outdoors and the work is essential to enjoying farming.
