Job Title: Compost Specialist

 

Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday             Hours: 7:00 – 3:00 PM

 

Location: Pocono Organics

 

Job Summery:

 

The compost specialist of Pocono organics will operate under PCO, ROC and all other compliance guidelines while conducting the daily activities and goals of the composting department. This role requires coordinating efforts with the various departments of farm operations to ensure efficient processes while maintaining high standards of product quality and overall safety. The composting specialist plays a critical role of the farm ops team by upholding the mission, vision and regenerative organic practices of Pocono Organics.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Execute the production plan with precision and minimal error to meet production goals, apply corrective action when necessary.
  • Coordinate material collection from all other departments of Pocono Organics and Pocono Raceway
  • Produce compost by means of the compost machine, windrows, vermicompost and compost tea.
  • Create compost recipes for specialized applications
  • Operate the composting machine
  • Maintain windrows of compost
  • Coordinate deliveries of material to the farm
  • Keep accurate records and logs to satisfy all compliance requirements
  • Store all tools, supplies, equipment in an organized and safe manor that maintains its integrity over time
  • Collect data and perform testing when requested
  • Keep accurate supply inventory and submit purchase orders
  • Contribute to landscaping efforts
  • Contribute to housekeeping efforts
  • Care for livestock
  • Adhere to all food safety protocols
  • Establish a culture of safety, observe all safety policy and procedures
  • Support all other departments as requested
  • All other duties as assigned

  • Operate equipment, implements, vehicles in a skilled and safe manor
  • Understand the action, function, benefits and risks of equipment, implements, tools and vehicles.
  • Perform regular maintenance on equipment, tools, vehicles within your skill set. Report when necessary
  • Engage with teamwork and self-motivated for solo tasks
  • Digital Literacy
  • Excellent communication skills; verbal, written, digital

 

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of agricultural experience with particular interest in soil health and regenerative organic agriculture
  • Proficient in MS office suite
  • Public Speaking is a plus

 

Physical Demands

  • Must be willing to work in all types of weather year round
  • Able to lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Indoor and outdoor work
  • Able to adapt hours according to the season to meet productions goals
