Urban Agriculture Policy Guide Available Online
The Center for Agriculture and Food Systems at Vermont Law and Graduate School has released Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production: A Guide to Local Policy, which explores how local policies impact food production in U.S. cities. The 88-page guide draws on insights from a scan of 17 “urban agriculture hub” cities, including interviews with more than 120 farmers, city leaders, and urban ag supporters. It covers key areas like land access, water access, zoning and land use, soil health, city governance, and innovative production, while identifying common policy barriers to urban agriculture and some policy strategies to meet those barriers. The guide and a set of six companion fact sheets also offer city highlights and key takeaways for both food producers and policymakers.
