General Farm Description: The Great Lakes Incubator Farm (GLIF), located in beautiful Northern Michigan, is dedicated to training the next generation of farmers through a local farming model rooted in regenerative agriculture. Our goal is to build resilience within local food systems while fostering a lasting culture of health and wellness. We strive to ensure equitable access to land and farming opportunities for our graduates, while promoting inclusivity within our trainees, staff, board, and the broader community. At GLIF, we actively engage in continuous learning, leveraging resources and training to advance social justice and food insecurities. Great Lakes Incubator Farm
7-Month Regenerative Farm Training Program
The Great Lakes Incubator Farm (GLIF)—a project of the Grand Traverse Conservation District—is now accepting applications for its 7-month immersive farm training program in beautiful Traverse City, Michigan.
This hands-on program is designed for individuals interested in exploring farming as a career. Participants gain real-world experience in regenerative agriculture, soil health, crop production, farm business planning, and land stewardship while working on a fully operational teaching farm.
Program Overview
Admission to the program is competitive, with five students selected each year. Participants commit to a seven-month season beginning in April, gaining experience in every aspect of farm operations—from soil preparation and planting to harvesting, marketing, and problem-solving.
Students work closely with the Farm Manager and collaborate as a team while participating in:
- Daily farm work and hands-on field training
- Classroom instruction and field demonstrations
- Workshops with regional agricultural professionals
The program culminates with each participant developing and presenting their own farm business plan, preparing them to launch or contribute to future farm enterprises.
