Handbook Offers Design Guidelines for Multifunctional Buffers
The USDA National Agroforestry Center and the Savanna Institute have released Multifunctional Buffers: Design Guidelines for Buffers, Corridors, and Greenways. This publication—a revision of a 2008 handbook—updates design guidelines for vegetative buffers that can help land managers enhance production and environmental benefits on their lands, build climate resilience, and enhance rural prosperity and food security. It includes more than 80 illustrated rules-of-thumb that were developed from a review of more than 1,900 research publications. The Great Lakes Protection Fund and the U.S. Forest Service provided funding for this project. A PDF version of the publication is available online for download.
