General Farm Description: Grounded in a values-based approach to land stewardship, Fifth Crow Farm is a dynamic and diversified organic farm in Pescadero, CA. Founded in 2008 with a shoestring budget, a supportive local community, and ambitious dreams, we strive to bring eaters the highest quality, best tasting, and most nutritious food possible. We are situated in the Cloverdale Valley, 45 miles from San Francisco and 35 miles from Santa Cruz. Primarily a market farm selling to farmers’ markets and restaurants in San Francisco and San Mateo County, we also have a nearly 700 member CSA. We operate on 150 acres: 30 acres of row crops, a 24-variety apple orchard, a young pear orchard, and a pastured egg operation consisting of 2 flocks of about 350 beautiful ladies – all heritage breeds.

Internship Details:

The Seasonal, Full Time Field Crew Position is the closest we have to a paid internship.  Under the direct supervision of our Managerial Team (Crew Leader, Pack Out Manager, and Subscriptions Manager), Field Crew aid in various aspects of field production and sales from sowing, weeding, transplanting, and harvesting, to selling at farmers’ markets, packing boxes for a 900 subscriber CSA, and assembling restaurant and wholesale orders.  This is a great opportunity for someone with a demonstrated passion and interest in organic veggie production, but who doesn’t have enough experience to manage or start their own operation. Opportunity for long term employment and advancement possible. Commitment through the week before Thanksgiving required. 

Pay: $18/hour for on farm hours. Market pay is $18.50-$21 (depending on if just helping or if driving or leading the market) with annual reviews of performance for raises.  Full time employees accrue up to 5 days paid sick leave per year and 1 week paid vacation. Health & optional dental benefits also included after 60 day wait period.


Educational Opportunities: This is a great opportunity for someone with a demonstrated passion and interest in organic veggie production, but who doesn’t have enough experience to manage or start their own operation.

Skills Desired: The ideal candidate is self-motivated, a team player, quick learner, good work ethic, has a passion for food and farming and enthusiasm to learn. Must be willing to work outdoors in inclement weather, and do repetitive tasks. This is a very physically demanding job that requires the ability to bend over for extended periods, stand, walk long distances and be able to repetitively lift 40-50lbs. This job is physical. Candidates must be able to perform repetitive tasks like hoeing, shoveling, leaning over, walking long distances, and lifting 40-50lbs repetitively. Some previous farming experience is a must. Good communication skills, customer service experience/farmers' market experience, basic Spanish, and experience driving a box truck a plus.

Meals: No

Stipend: For people who commute from over 20+ miles away to the farm, you'll receive a $10 cash gas stipend.

Housing: While we do have on-site housing, it is very limited. Please mention in your application if you are interested in on-farm housing, or if your acceptance of the position would be dependent on housing.
