Agriculture and Food Research Initiative Foundational and Applied Science Program: Bioeconomy and Biobased Products

The Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) is America’s flagship competitive grants program that provides funding for fundamental and applied research, education, and extension projects in the food and agricultural sciences. Funding is available for numerous priorities in six program areas. The Bioeconomy and Biobased Products program area priority focuses on improving biomass systems, bioeconomy, and related markets for biobased products and bioenergy. The improvements can include identification, development, and deployment of new products and efficient processes to generate new revenue streams and enhancing the resilience of the system of supply-chains in the bioeconomy. Standard grants up to $1 million, seed grants up to $300,000, and workshop and equipment grants up to $50,000 are available.
