During the planning phase of the food forest, organizers placed signs around the city with a QR code link to an anonymous survey where people could input ideas about what kinds of plants and other features they wanted to see in the food forest.

Appalachian Community Resilience + Response Mini-Grant Program

The Central Appalachian Network’s new Appalachian Community Resilience + Response Mini-Grant Program aims to support local communities and organizations throughout Central Appalachia in increasing their ability to adapt to, prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural disasters and changes in environmental conditions. The program anticipates making 12 to 15 awards of $5,000 to $12,000 each. Applicants should be economic development organizations, nonprofits, units of local government, community-based organizations, and/or businesses or individuals willing to find community or government partners. Allowable activities include community engagement, pre-development planning, professional services, grant writing, and more.
