Appalachian Farms Feeding Families Supports Hurricane Recovery

Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP) re-established its Appalachian Farms Feeding Families program as part of its response to Hurricane Helene. The program gets fresh, locally grown food to people impacted by the storm, while at the same time providing cash flow for farms that are in the process of rebuilding or have lost market outlets. Two initiatives are underway. In the first, farms will work with early care and education (ECE) sites to plan and provide community supported agriculture shares for the families of the children at the center, or offer custom orders to be used for meal preparation at the site. Grants are between $500 and $1500, depending on the number of students served, and ECE providers in western North Carolina should apply by April 2, 2025, to participate. The second initiative, a restaurant version of this program, is set to launch this spring.
