Farm Transition Planning Course Coming to South Dakota
The Land Stewardship Project’s holistic Farm Transition Planning Course is coming to Freeman, South Dakota, this winter in collaboration with Rural Revival and Dakota Rural Action. The course includes seven weekly in-person sessions on Tuesday evenings, with a full-day Saturday session on January 31, 2026, to kick-off, and another March 14, 2026, to close the training. Presenters will include area farmers who are implementing farm transition plans, as well as professionals representing the legal and financial fields as they relate to agricultural businesses. Workshop participants will have an opportunity to begin their planning as well as learn about resources for continuing the process after the workshop’s conclusion. “This course will provide an opportunity to join with other farmers who are pondering their next transition steps and to develop goals while assessing land, legacy and financial considerations,” explains LSP’s Karen Stettler. The course fee is $250 per family, and the registration deadline is January 9, 2026.
