Publication Helps Farmers Create and Utilize Enterprise Budgets

A new, free bulletin from Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education (SARE), Enterprise Budgets for Diversified Farms: Tools for Understanding Your Bottom Line, provides guidance on using enterprise budgets, recordkeeping systems, and partial budget analysis to evaluate management decisions for diversified farm operations. The publication presents a system for creating a set of enterprise budgets for your farm. It also includes five case studies that illustrate how to use enterprise budgets in real-world situations, including three cow-calf operations that sell both hay and grassfed beef, a grain farm considering intensifying and diversifying its crop rotation, and a perennial crop system growing strawberries.
