General Description: 1/2 acre lavender farm and garden. Run U-Cut and harvest for dried lavender, distill lavender and run farm store. Very small farm. Organic since November 2008. About 2000 plants. About 15 varieties.

Meals: Eat with family or use of downstairs refrigerator.
Skills Desired: Ability to be a self-starter, interact with people (we have people stopping and cutting their own lavender daily), not afraid of bees. Patience and love of lavender a plus. Must like children (we have two girls, 9 and 15). Some agricultural background helpful; we are only in our 5th year and are open to suggestions. We are open to responsible high school graduates (18 and up).
Educational Opportunities: Vashon has many organic and sustainable farms, a farmer's market and is located close to Seattle and Tacoma. In addition to some basic farming and gardening skills, interns will learn about running a small business.
Stipend: Will pay ferry tolls. Pool membership. Lots of people and fun. Small stipend possible based on experience and number of hours worked.
Housing: Small basement bedroom. Toilet and shower in house.

Internship Details: Interns will work 20 hours per week in the field, weeding, harvesting and maintaining lavender. Also opportunities to care for garden, learn to distill lavender, dry lavender and clean for culinary and craft uses. We run a U-Cut lavender stand, open daily, and a farm store on weekends. Ability to work with customers and handle money a plus.
