General Description: 1/2 acre lavender farm and garden. Run U-Cut and harvest for dried lavender, distill lavender and run farm store. Very small farm. Organic since November 2008. About 800 plants. About 20 varieties.

Meals: Food provided for all meals - family-style. Take turns preparing food and cleaning up. Interns are included in dining out and parties on-island.

Skills Desired: Ability to be a self-starter, interact with people (we have people stopping and cutting their own lavender daily), not afraid of bees. Patience and love of lavender a plus. Good with children, elderly all a plus. Ideal candidate is a college student or recent college graduate who enjoy the outdoors, gardening, socializing and can be part of our extended family.

Educational Opportunities: Vashon has many organic and sustainable farms, a farmer's market and is located close to Seattle and Tacoma. In addition to some basic farming and gardening skills, interns will learn about running a small business.

Stipend: Will pay ferry tolls. Pool membership. Lots of people and fun. Small stipend paid weekly.

Housing: Private room in house and shared bath. House is a six bedroom farmhouse with water and mountain views.

Internship Details: Interns will work 5 days per week in the field, weeding, harvesting and maintaining lavender. Also opportunities to care for garden, learn to distill lavender, dry lavender and clean for culinary and craft uses. We run a U-Cut lavender stand, open daily, and a farm store on weekends. Ability to work with customers and handle money a plus. Gardening and farming experience useful but not necessary.
