Farm Microclimates Affect Pollination
A study by researchers at Penn State University examined how microclimates on farms, or slightly warmer areas in fields, affect pollination and crop yields. Testing on a wild blueberry field in Maine revealed that both wild bees and honey bees found the most densely blooming areas of the fields and concentrated their foraging in these areas, usually in warmer parts of the field. Researchers say that this research helps shed light on predicting pollinator activity and contributes to explaining crop-yield variability in different parts of a field.
