“Essentially, it will work like this: 10 or 12 of us will harvest, process and deliver the blueberry crop over 6 weeks. There'll be two teams and they'll alternate days working in the fields harvesting and workiing in the barn processing. We'll all share meals, their preparation, consumption, and clean-up, and some community chores (gardening and the like). We'll all work as long as it takes to get the work done, which will depend on the size of the crop.
It's fast-paced work. Some of the harvesting is by hand and it isn't for the feint of heart (though we know people in their 80's who do it, right alongside their great grandchildren).
Most important to us is that we all enjoy the experience and that we get the crop in, pretty much in that order. Usually and for most of us it's great fun.
It's possible to get out hiking and swimming and the like, depending on how the harvest is going.
If this sounds like a good fit for you, then let's talk further. It'd be good to get two references from you, from people who could speak to your ability to work with us.
Usually it's college students working here with us.”
Educational Opportunities: "If you want to learn every aspect of managing an organic wild blueberry farm, this is your chance."
Skills Desired: "Most important is the ability to work well in a group, to find your place in the flow of activity and fill it out. We enjoy our work and enjoy sharing it. We like to make sure everyone working with us is having a meaningful experience and is contributing their best. It'd be good, too, if you were physically fit, able to lift 35 pounds or so, and reveled in hard physical labor. Contributing to the group dynamic in a positive way is the most important thing; that, and the ability to find joy in working with a diverse group. The perfect intern for us is a single person in high school or college who's eager for a fresh adventure. You don't need to have experience. If you're a person who strives to do well, then you'll work out great. "
Meals: We're vegans or vegetarians. Eat with us.
