General Farm Description: Manor Rock Farm is a small diversified farmstead located in Taghkanic NY. The 2024 season will be our first true year of commercial production. We raise specialty Mangalitsa pork, heritage poultry, and culinary vegetables primarily for Manor Rock’s Warren Street restaurant and weekend markets. We are a small, young crew of two owner operators and a field manager. The farm utilizes no-till practices, with a focus on soil health and integration of biodynamic principles. This role will tend the half acre french biointensive market garden, two caterpillar tunnels, one 30’x48’ high tunnel, one 30’ x 72’ greenhouse, as well as the livestock that we raise. Experience is not required, but preferred. We are looking for kind people, quick workflow, attention to detail, and an appetite for learning how to raise high quality culinary products. We work regardless of the weather unless it is a safety concern, with most days starting around 7am. The Assistant Grower Position entails:
field / bed preparation
Propagation
Greenhouse management
direct seeding and transplanting
cover cropping
Pest and disease identification, management
Intercropping methods
cultivation
harvesting
washing and packing
grain and supply pick up
tool care
trellising and pruning
farm maintenance (maintaining and organizing shared work spaces)
continued infrastructure and production space setup
pig and poultry care (temporary fence set-up, pasture rotation, daily feeding, watering, and help with loading for the abattoir)
help with deliveries, market set-up, and abattoir pick-ups may be necessary throughout the season
Ideally we are searching for:

ability to lift 50lb
Comfortable working in all types of weather (unless safety issue)
1-2 years of experience with no-till market gardening or with livestock preferred
Knowledge of small-scale agricultural systems

excitement for learning alongside a growing project and team
Weekend availability* this position requires applicant to work chores(animal caretaking, greenhouse watering, irrigation, harvest) on at least 1-2 weekends each month, but would have the following Monday off (rotating schedule with Field Manager)
Hours & Compensation:
Start Date Immediate Upon Hire
Hours change throughout the year, with an average of 45-60 hours per week during production season
Full time position paid weekly through payroll services
Biweekly farm crew lunches provided on farm
Educational Opportunities: Great opportunity for someone to learn about intensive market gardening and raising quality heritage breed pork. On-site processing of charcuterie and ability to work directly with a restaurant team.
