Internship information
General Farm Description: We are a seasonal farmstead cow dairy and farmstead cheesemaking operation in the foothills of Western North Carolina. We have been making great cheese since 2009. We milk a mixed (Jersey, Holstein, Ayrshire, Devon) herd of dairy cows, raise beef crosses for meat, raise whey fed pigs seasonally and we have a busy Farm Store with a food service element. We also have agritourism events throughout the year like u-pick sunflowers.

Internship Details:

We are looking for a hardworking, team player to help with all area’s of cheese production in our creamery. The position runs 6 months from mid-May to mid-October. Job responsibilities include the following:

  • Assist with milk transfer from dairy
  • Clean equipment & cheese molds
  • Scoop curd and fill molds
  • Affinage – turn wheels in cellar, wine wash, maintain brines, etc
  • Package cheese
  • Operate Vacuum Sealer
  • Clean floors and drains
  • Help out with everything in the creamery as needed

No cheese experience necessary, general kitchen experience helpful. Willingness to work hard, contribute, and have fun (while working hard) required.


Educational Opportunities: Lots to learn about cheesemaking and a seasonal farmstead cheesemaking operation. You will leave with knowledge of cheesemaking for pasteurized and raw milk cheese production and maintenance. How to make fresh cheese to long aged cheese and how to maintain them in the cellar. Other area's of the farm can be learned about while you are here from the garden, to milking cows, to pig management to retail sales and food service but those are not technically part of the job.

Skills Desired: Food service or kitchen experience is helpful. Cheesemaking experience not required. Good attitude and work ethic a must.

Meals: No meals provided but welcome to pick produce from the garden.

Stipend: We pay $15.00 an hour with free housing.
