Internship information
General Farm Description: Established in 2017 Moon River Farm is located on the beautiful North Oregon Coast, surrounded by forest, river valleys and the mighty Pacific Ocean. We grow over 50 different vegetables, from April through November. Our produce is available through our 100 household CSA, at the Manzanita Farmers Market, and at select local restaurants. We are Certified Organic. We grow intensively on 1.5 acres using a small tractor, paper pot transplanter and other specialized tools. We use cover cropping and soil testing to maintain our most precious resource, the soil.

Internship Details:

Seasonal farm crew members are vital to the success of the farm. As a member of the team you will primarily harvest, wash and pack weekly vegetable orders in a team setting. We will train you on our high quality, cleanliness and consistency standards for our veggie products. You will play a crucial role in maintaining those standards. This work is fast paced, we use sharp knives, and harvest a lot of food in a day. It is fun and satisfying skilled work. As with all skills, you will build proficiency with effort and time.

There will also be 1-2 days/week of field work (i.e. planting, bed prep, weeding, trellising etc.) In the beginning and end of the season there is a heavier focus on field work. In the middle of the season the focus is on harvest.

You may also be scheduled to work at our farmers market booth in Manzanita or at our weekly farmstand/CSA pickup. These shifts consist of packing and unpacking the van, setting up the booth, selling vegetables, and chatting with customers.

Our ideal candidate:

  • Is consistently prompt.

  • Is comfortable with physically demanding work in all weather conditions

  • Has a basic knowledge of eating and buying vegetables.

  • Is comfortable working alone and in small groups.

  • Is detail oriented, focused and enjoys fast paced work.

  • Is proficient in doing basic math in their head.

Please note that farm work is physically demanding and can be repetitive. The work requires repeated bending, lifting, and lots of standing. You will need to be able to lift 50 lbs off of the ground safely. We’ve made investments in systems and equipment to minimize wear and tear on our bodies, but the work is still physically demanding.

Previous farm, restaurant, or team sport experience valued but not required.
