General Farm Description: New Life Farm is a first-generation farm that has focused on both sustainable crop production and pasture based livestock since 2012. Located in the foothills between Blowing Rock and Lenoir North Carolina, we are currently focusing on sustainable crop production and agritourism. Internship Details:
Employees will be immersed in a variety of tasks on a day to day basis. In terms of agricultural work, employees will be directly involved in seeding, propagating, managing, cultivating, and harvesting a wide variety of organically grown vegetables and herbs. These tasks will be carried out both outdoors, as well as in our hightunnels and greenhouse.
On the farm, we currently have two glamping sites, that employees will help maintain and manage for both guests and workshop attendees. With this year being the beginning of our workshop endeavors, employees can expect to be involved with tasks revolving around the preparation and execution of the workshop series we will be offering throughout the year.
Educational Opportunities: We make sure to integrate employees/interns into most aspects of the farm. Everything from seeding, planting, crop management, harvesting, sales and distribution, and the use of a wide variety of agricultural tools and equipment can be expected to be done by interns/employees. Several of our past employees are available as references who can provide insight into their experiences working at New Life farm, some of which have gone on to start or manage other farms.
Skills Desired: No prior agricultural experience is required. Potential employees must be 18 years old, and possess a valid driver's license. The following is what we expect from potential employees: Showing up to work on time (Respectfulness) Willingness to learn (Curiosity) Positive Attitude Strong Work Ethic Humility Physically able to engage in manual labor under dynamic weather conditions.
Meals: We provide a selection of meat, eggs, and produce to employees.
Stipend: $15/hr, plus gas stipend, as well as food from the farm.
