Internship Details:

Farmhouse Organics has two more additional intern positions available for our 2019 season. We strive for enthusiasm and positive energy on our farm. Farming is very rewarding but it is a physical job. You must be in good physical condition, with the ability to lift 50+ pounds regularly and work 10+ hour days spring, summer and fall with all the changes in the weather during those seasons: rain, wind, intense heat and freezing temperatures. In addition to our website, we have a facebook page and Instagram for the farm that has some pictures and updates from previous farm interns that will give a glimpse of farm life. Our farm is located on the kitsap peninsula. We are very close to the beaches of Liberty Bay, Puget Sound and the Hood Canal. The Hood Canal bridge is 15 mins away and it leads to the Olympic mountains(30 mins away) and the Pacific Ocean (3 hrs away). We are 50 mins (including ferry time) from downtown Seattle.

Educational Opportunities: This is a great opportunity to learn all aspects of small scale intensive farming. We are a very successful certified organic farm with 28 years of experience. An internship at our farm will hopefully help you in your path to successfully operating your own farm or pursue another career with a new appreciation for healthy food and farming.

Skills Desired: Previous farming experience is a bonus but not necessary. Ideal candidates are able to roll with the constant deluge of issues that hits us daily and greet each work day with a what can I do, how can I help attitude! Positivity, enthusiasm and a great sense of humor are crucial! Weather, pests, farm infrastructure, retail and wholesale customer management are all a part of farm work. Strong organizational skills, time management, and an overall resiliency are essential. A drivers license and clean driving record are required We have a delivery van that our apprentices use for farmer's markets and wholesale and CSA deliveries. A passion for food and cooking is a necessity and goes hand in hand with farming! Please provide an outline of your specific goals as far as what you would like to take away from an internship on our farm. To apply please email a cover letter, resume and three references to Farmhouseorganics@gmail.com.

Meals: On your own or with our other interns.

Stipend: $850/month includes housing and some farm produce. The stipend is $1,000/month if housing is not required.

Housing: A room in an on-farm house shared with interns from neighboring farms. The house is managed by Friends of Farms a non-profit farm organization, with interns expected to participate in keeping common areas and outside areas clean. The house is on Bainbridge Island and it's located 7 miles from our farm. Wireless Internet is available.
