We strive for enthusiasm and positive energy on our farm. Farming is very rewarding but it is a physical job. You must be in good physical condition, with the ability to lift 50+ pounds regularly and work spring, summer and fall with all changes in the weather during those seasons: rain, wind, intense heat and freezing temperatures. Our apprentices work 5 days with 2 days off each week. You don’t need to have farm experience to apply for our internship. In addition to our website, we have a facebook page and Instagram @Farmhouseorganics for the farm that give glimpse of farm life.

Farmhouse Organics is a certified organic family farm in Poulsbo, WA. We’ve farmed our site in Poulsbo since 1999 and we leased an additional 5 acres of land in Poulsbo in 2016. We established our farm in 1991 on Bainbridge Island as a flower farm and transitioned into mainly vegetable production in 2001. We have a full season 29 week CSA and various wholesale accounts with grocery stores and restaurants. Currently we vend at four Seattle farmer’s markets and the Bainbridge Island farmer’s market. We also sell some value added products, honey, beeswax candles and apple cider. Our farm is located on the kitsap peninsula. We are a couple of miles from the beaches of Liberty Bay and the Puget Sound . The Hood Canal bridge is 15 mins away and it leads to the Olympic mountains(30 mins away) and the Pacific Ocean (3 hrs away). We are 50 mins (including ferry time) from downtown Seattle.

Educational Opportunities: We will teach you everything we know about farming as we work together. This is a great opportunity to learn all aspects of small scale intensive farming. We are a very successful certified organic farm with 26 years of experience. An internship at our farm will hopefully help you in your path to successfully operating your own farm or pursue another career with a new appreciation for healthy food and farming.

Skills Desired: Previous farming experience is a bonus but not necessary. Ideal candidates are able to roll with the constant deluge of issues that hits us daily and greet each work day with a 'what can I do, how can I help' attitude! Positivity, enthusiasm and a great sense of humor are crucial! Weather, pests, farm infrastructure, retail and wholesale customer management are all a part of farm work. Strong organizational skills, time management, and an overall resiliency are essential. A drivers license and clean driving record are required We have a delivery van that our apprentices use for farmer's markets and wholesale and CSA deliveries. A passion for food and cooking is a necessity and goes hand in hand with farming! Please provide an outline of your specific goals as far as what you would like to take away from an internship on our farm. To apply please email a cover letter, resume and three references to Farmhouseorganics@gmail.com.
