General Farm Description: Genesee Lake School specializes in treatment for students ages 7 to 21 who have been diagnosed with Neurodevelopmental Disorders. Autism Spectrum Disorder and Intellectual Disability are the primary diagnoses of the students who attend our school, and many of our students have secondary or coexisting diagnoses for mental health needs. Homegrown Farms is located on our campus and is an operational, agricultural farm providing an assortment of learning opportunities and benefits to the students and staff of our school. Our students use this environment to learn, grow, and work. Vegetables are produced on our 1 acre field site using organic methods for distribution to the school cafeteria, residential homes via a CSA program, and for sale to our employees.CRAFT Member Farm? The Field Assistant position is a Full-Time 40 hour per week seasonal position supporting vegetable production for use at Genesee Lake School for the 2025 growing season under direction of the Field Manager.
Main responsibilities include:
Works closely alongside Field/Farm Manager to ensure daily and weekly field production goals are met. Field Manager delegates tasks and manages this position.
Assists in the completion of seasonal field tasks including but not limited to seeding, transplanting, bed prepping, weeding, harvesting, watering, trellising and pruning.
Safely and appropriately use/operate field tools and equipment as necessary to complete tasks.
Safely cleans and handles field produce while preparing kitchen and group home deliveries (i.e. washing, rinsing, sorting and packing a variety of vegetables).

Educational Opportunities: Training on the job provided and opportunities for crop specific management are available.
Skills Desired: Experience working in horticulture and/or organic agriculture preferred.
Meals: Breakfast and lunch are available free of cost at the school cafeteria. The position also receives access to an employee garden plot space and free produce as it becomes available during the growing season.
Stipend: Pay is $18.75/hr at 40 hrs per week
