General Farm Description: Free Range Flowers is an 8-acre farm in Bellingham, WA (Nooksack). The farm specializes in cut flowers and foliage, particularly unique perennials and shrubs. Organic practices are part of a larger farm project of environmental and social sustainability including regular check-ins, healthy communication, conscientious use of physical labor, rainwater harvesting, cover cropping, solar power, and more. Internship Details:
This is a paid hourly seasonal farmer position as part of a 4-6 person crew. This role is focused on work in both the field and pack shed and entails working with other crew members to efficiently grow and pack high quality cut flowers and foliage for wholesale markets. A typical week includes planting, weeding/cultivating, trellissing, assisting with harvest, and arranging grocery bouquets. This role requires reliable transportation, good communication, fine motor skills, and a willingness to learn.
34-44 hours per week
Sunday-Thursday preferred (flexible)
April through October
Tasks:
● Basic tractor use
● Transplanting by hand and with a transplanting machine
● Assisting with drip tape layout and cleanup
● Bed preparation and cultivation: raking, hoeing, etc.
● Hand-weeding
● Trellising
● Mixing soil
● Mulching
● Washing and filling buckets and trays
● Pushing wagons and carts to and from field
● Safely operating cutting tools for harvest of a wide variety of annuals, perennials and shrubs
● Safely working with and around farm equipment
● Quickly assessing quality of flower bunches
● Filling and packing orders based on weekly lists
● Depending on skill level and experience, may include additional tasks such as watering, seeding,
crop maintenance, etc.

● 8-8.5 hour work day with one 30 minute unpaid lunch break and one 30 minute paid afternoon break. Morning stretch and debrief.
● Lunch provided, pool available, annual bonus.
● PTO/sick time accrued 1 hour/40 hours worked. Overtime (over 40 hours) paid at 1.5x hourly
rate.
