General Farm Description: Our farm is a large historic estate located just 20 minutes from downtown Charlottesville. We operate a 23-acre, 375-member certified organic vegetable CSA and also raise and sell pork, beef, chicken and eggs.CRAFT Member Farm? No

Internship Details:
Summary: We are looking for team members for our veggie field crew and market staff! This is a field work position requiring manual labor under outdoor conditions. This position also requires 1-2 shifts per week staffing one of our multiple farmer’s markets/CSA pickups. Our farm is a large business with multiple enterprises and opportunities for advancement or changing of roles. This is not an internship but a paid hourly position.
Hours: Hours have seasonal variation. In-season (April-Nov), you can expect up to 40 hours per week. We are open to part-time workers and may or may not have off-season work available.
Start Date: approx April 1st
Compensation: This position is paid hourly starting at $16.50-17.00 per hour DOE. Other benefits include free veggies and eggs, paid time off, crew discount, and farm access for walking and swimming
We’re looking for someone who
- Has a knowledge and/or interest in vegetable production
- Can work outside in hot, cold, or wet conditions
- Can repeatedly lift and carry 60+ lbs
- Has attention to detail
- Is able to excel in a fast-paced team work environment
- Has an understanding of the importance of food safety
- Has interest/skill in customer service and public-facing work

Prefered, but not required skills:
- Manual transmission proficiency
- Experience in a manual labor field with good references
- Prior farm experience
Field Duties 40%
- Harvesting vegetables according to our harvest standards
- Planting vegetables
- Weeding, trellising, installing landscape fabric, row covers
- Field clean-up: pulling plastic and landscape fabric
- Specialized tasks like irrigation and fencing
Barn/Greenhouse Duties 20%
- Washing vegetables according to SOPs
- Organizing walk-in cooler
- Seeding in greenhouse
- Cleaning/organizing in Barn Store and greenhouse
Market 40%
- Market shifts; produce and meat distribution, in person sales, serving CSA members
