We are seeking a full time live-in farmhand / apprentice for the 2024 season. You will live and work on the farm. You’ll be immersed in all details of a small market garden, receive a weekly stipend, valuable experience in organic vegetable, mushroom, fruit and rice production, Permacultural practices, and of course all the fresh vegetables and mushrooms you could possibly want.
Your duties will include harvesting, washing and packing vegetables and CSA bags; building and maintaining grow beds; preparing and seeding grow beds; building and sculpting rice paddies and terraces; rice planting, weeding, and harvesting; soaking and harvesting shiitake mushrooms; servicing farmer’s markets customers; mowing, land clearing and digging; and more weeding then you’ve ever done in your life!
You’ll also be involved in the building of a permacultural demonstration site, helping us terraform, build ponds, pollard and coppice, manage forest and wetlands, build hugelkulture mounds, and many more things.
No experience necessary, but always appreciated. Your stipend is negotiable and reasonable, and will depend on your prior experience. You don’t need a car, but it helps.
FYI: we are a covid conscious household. We take covid seriously and expect you to do the same. We don’t care about your vaxx status only that you take precautions to keep our home covid free (as we do).
