General Farm Description: Who we are: Primo is a farm to table restaurant located in Mid-Coast Maine, headed by Executive chef, Melissa Kelly headed into its 26th season. The farm and restaurant are situated on 5 acres with a portion of that in full time intensive cultivation following regenerative practices. This allows us to be incredibly productive on a small scale. With 2 greenhouses, 200 laying chickens, 150 broiler chickens, 12 pigs, and 5 ducks, the farm is very much alive and participating in a full circle experience. The farm generates an atmosphere of hard-work, collaboration, experimentation and pride for the quality of food we grow. The work is intense but we still love to have fun! Job Description: The position begins April 1st and continues until the end of October with the opportunity to stay on for future seasons. Compensation is based on experience. Housing is not provided. The work week is generally Wednesday-Sunday 8am-5pm. Expect to work generally more hours in the spring and summer and fewer hours in the winter.
The farm hand position is involved in all aspects of growing- from seed to harvest. Bed prep, planting, harvesting, cultivation, weeding, watering, weighing, storing, organization, animal chores, and general tidiness and clean-up.

Educational Opportunities: There is opportunity to learn from the head farmer here how to grow vegetables, flowers and fruit trees. As well as learn about soil, closed loop systems and all aspects of organic growing.
Skills Desired: Requirements: Applicants should be hard working and reliable. We have high- expectations of our employees but also give support and the resources you need to be an incredible team member! Must be able to withstand (dare I say, enjoy?) and work in all weather conditions(rain, snow, wind, high heat and humidity). This is a physical, outdoor job- must be able to lift 50 lbs and be physically active throughout the day every day. Applicants must be able to bend and kneel and have a driver’s license. The job can be difficult on the body and mind and it is important that you are able to handle pressure well. Much of the work is repetitive and requires attention to detail. There is lots of room for learning and we are looking for someone who knows how to have fun and be light- hearted when challenges arise. Ideal candidate has some production farming experience and experience working in a restaurant, in any capacity, is an added bonus. They are good at taking direction, able to focus throughout the day, a fast learner and have a positive attitude and passion for growing and enjoying food!
