Internship information
General Farm Description: Two Creek is a regenerative USDA-organic farm in Northeast Pennsylvania. We produce delicious, nutrient-dense food for ourselves and our local community while giving back to Mother nature through ecological restoration. We raise pastured poultry including layers, broilers, and turkeys; breed and raise forested pigs; and run and breed grass-fed cattle and sheep. We also tend a quarter-acre market garden and early-stage fruit and nut orchards. We manage holistically following the principles of Allan Savory. Our holistic context includes operating a profitable commercial farm while offering education to new farmers and eaters alike in support of a broader transition to a regenerative food system.

APPRENTICE TESTAMONIALS

“This place is the real deal. A tremendous wealth of available knowledge and experience from considerate and caring hosts. It is incredibly satisfying and leaves me feeling better physically and mentally.”

“This farm is an excellent choice for anyone interested in learning about contemporary, ‘progressive’ farming methods, how a small farm runs in a real commercial setting, and how to farm under sustainable / regenerative models.”

“I especially enjoyed working to transform raw land into pasture. It was fascinating to see how different animals changed the terrain noticeably even in the space of a few weeks/months.”

“I learned what I set out to learn, and more. I totally destroyed a pair of boots. There were ups, downs, and everything in between — it was a good summer.”

PROGRAM SUMMARY

Two Creek’s Regenerative Apprenticeship Program is a full-season residential program that provides both practical experience and theoretical understanding of regenerative and organic agriculture to aspiring farmers. The program includes a weekly book club where we discuss selected readings, connect them to our farm management practices, and reflect on how these ideas support ourselves, our community, and the ecosystem.

Compensation:

  • $15/hour salary
  • End-of-season bonus
  • Housing and utilities in the historic farmhouse on the property
  • Surplus vegetables, eggs, and meat
  • 25% discount on all farm purchases

Come learn how to become a regenerative organic farmer!

PROGRAM CONTENT AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Apprentices rotate across our major work areas including livestock, orchards, market garden, marketing, and business management. This hands-on work is informed by relevant frameworks such as Allan Savory’s Holistic Management, P.A. Yeomans’ Scale of Permanence and Keyline Design, and Bill Mollison’s 12 Principles of Permaculture.

We work with each apprentice to develop a personalized learning plan that includes daily tasks (such as pasture moves) and special projects (such as water system setup). Expect a 40-50 hour work week that may include early starts and late nights according to the demands of the season. Interested apprentices can receive training equivalent to a Holistic Management Intensive and coaching to apply for certification as an Accredited Professional with the Savory Institute.

While the overarching goal is learning, the day-to-day priority is running the farm. A typical day includes morning and evening animal care (feeding, daily moves, etc.) with much of the day focused on special projects like fencing and silvopasture development. The weekly heartbeat is our weekend farmers’ markets, so we generally harvest and pack the day before and attend markets on weekends. We also offer public farm tours and other educational events throughout the season.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

Our apprenticeship program runs from April 1 through November 30. Apprentices are expected to stay the entire season, though shorter stays may be approved by special request (for example, to accommodate university class schedules).

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated commitment to becoming a regenerative farmer
  • Ability to work hard outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Flexibility to complete a wide range of tasks
  • Positive track record of taking initiative
  • Ability to work well in a small team
  • Prior hands-on farm experience (at least one full season preferred)

LIFE ON THE FARM

Apprentices stay in the historic farmhouse on the property, which is equipped with a full kitchen, bedrooms, bathroom, washing machine, and wood stoves. Apprentices also have access to a private gym and sauna.

On the farm, we have a half-acre spring-fed pond for swimming and fishing, and woodlands for forest bathing, foraging, and hiking. Just a mile away is a 50-acre private lake. We’re close to the Delaware River with nearby rail-trails, offering plenty of opportunities for recreation.

Life here is quiet and rural. While we have a supportive team environment on the farm, opportunities to socialize off-farm are limited. This setting is ideal for those who appreciate solitude, nature immersion, and close-knit community.

ABOUT THE FARMER / TRAINER

Two Creek Farm is owned and managed by Brent Habig. Brent spent most of his career as an environmental executive in Africa and Asia, supporting governments and global corporations in building inclusive and sustainable supply chains. Since 2019, he has been a farmer, activist, and educator in the agroecology movement, operating Two Creek Farm as a demonstration regenerative organic farm to accelerate the transition to regenerative agriculture. Brent has conducted trainings and presentations for the Savory Institute, PASA Sustainable Agriculture, and Kutztown University. He is an Accredited Professional with the Savory Institute.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Please email a cover letter and resume to apprentice@twocreek.net and request our application. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Finalists will be invited to a video interview and to spend a day working at Two Creek to finalize our selection.
