Do you want to serve your community while protecting the environment and getting professional experience with an environmental nonprofit?
Whether you are passionate about conservation, land access, or sustainable agriculture, TerraCorps is here to help you serve local communities and build professional skills through transformative experiences.
TerraCorps is an AmeriCorps affiliated environmental nonprofit preparing and mobilizing emerging leaders to help communities gain access to and conserve land for people and nature. We do this by partnering with a network of 40+ nonprofits in Massachusetts and Rhode Island focused on community needs related to local land conservation and sustainable agriculture. These partners act as service sites for a new cohort of up to 60 AmeriCorps service members annually. Service members are paired with a site supervisor who provides guidance and mentorship while they build capacity for the organization and learn to manage community programs in one of 5 coordinator positions: Community Engagement Coordinators (CEC), Sustainable Agriculture Coordinators (SAC), Land Stewardship Coordinators (LSC), Youth Education Coordinators (YEC), Land Conservation Coordinator (LCC).
Sustainable Agriculture Coordinators build the long-term capacity of their service sites by:
- Members may organize volunteers to help build and manage community farms and gardens so more people can grow and access healthy food.
- Members may train and educate beginning gardeners and farmers to use organic growing practices, plan growing systems, improve soils, and remove invasive species.
- Members may organize volunteers help communities restore land, build garden beds and greenhouses, access water, and harvest and distribute food to the community.
- And many other sustainable agriculture projects and activities.
Join the call to serve and create a future where land is the foundation for health and well-being for ALL people in EVERY community.
Member Benefits:
- Living allowance of $27,000 distributed over the course of the term
- Healthcare coverage
- Childcare coverage if eligible
