General Farm Description: We are a family run market garden using regenerative methods of cultivation. Striving to integrate a biodiverse collection of life to produce healthy soil alongside happy plants. Umami Gardens is a production farm with weekly orders and 2 markets providing high quality, nutrient dense, fresh, clean vegetables to our community. All sales are within a 50 mile radius of the farm. We harvest and deliver twice a week to restaurants and local grocery stores, providing mixed salad greens and a variety of short and long term crops throughout the year.CRAFT Member Farm? No

Internship Details:
As an Umami Gardens intern you will be an integral part of our production team. Each week the intern will help plant, harvest and maintain the farm. This includes washing and packing after harvests, weeding, feeding, planting, pruning and trellising a variety of plants and vegetables. In addition to plant work, the intern will also help with greenhouse building and irrigation maintenance.
We have a small flock of chickens that requires occasional maintenance and a shared responsibility to water and feed each day.
- Interns can to work 30-50 hours a week. Experienced farm hands can earn $20 an hour, inexperienced workers start at $15 an hour with an opportunity for raises after completing a full training
We have intern housing for one, or a couple A private “slide-in” camper RV with a king size bed, full kitchen, dinning area with table and bench and an outdoor bathroom. This can be provided with a combination of paid work and work-trade hours.
We are happy to provide a camping spot if you have a tent or your own camper.
Educational Opportunities: We strive to lead a new a new generation of small farmers, to share our knowledge of working with and nurturing the land in a regenerative way. This is a very hands on position, we will work closely with one another, learn and grow together. You will learn how to operate and use all tools and machinery, specifically designed for a No till market garden Come stay with us and learn how to start your own No-Till , bio-intensive and regenerative farm. learn cover cropping techniques , intercropping, relay cropping, KNF inputs and no-till practices to create healthy soils. These methods are not mainstream and cannot be bought on a shelf, it takes practice and a lot of effort We want to share the mistakes and triumphs we have found with others to help the future generations have a smaller impact on the environment and healthier food for themselves and their communities.
Skills Desired: While experience is always revered we know approaching farming as a new career can be intimidating and we are not closed to those who have an inclination to join us in the field. We have taught and trained interns in past seasons and are happy to introduce farming to those who want to learn!
Meals: We do not provide prepared meals. Interns can pick and eat as much veg from the field and tunnels as they like.
Stipend: As mentioned above we offer paid positions in combination with work trade. These details will be sorted based on the interest and availability of the intern.
