Enjoy living in our gorgeous antique farmhouse, with your own private quarters, as you dive deep into all aspects of farming.
• Learn all aspects of veggie & flower operations: seeding, planting, weeding & cultivation, pruning, mulching, harvesting, processing, flower arranging, high tunnel growing, CSA, farmers markets, and more.
• Learn all about soil health regenerative practices such as no-till, cover crop management, use of carbonaceous and living mulches, foliar-feeding, beneficial insect habitat, hügelkultur permaculture techniques, building healthy soils, composting, and more.

* Fall interns will be immersed in the changeover from summer to fall in our fields and high tunnels, learning how to grow storage crops for fall/winter sales as well as fresh greens that can be harvested and sold all winter long using only passive solar heat (no fossil fuels!). Great skills for any future farmer to learn as well as future homesteaders.
* Fall interns will be exposed to some fun projects that are underway right now: we are in the process of erecting a series of caterpillar tunnels, getting ready to build a pavilion that will house pizza dinners and a farmstand in the future, creating a cut-your-own flower garden for next season, as well as finishing some conservation projects by installing bat boxes and raptor perches on the farm.
*We love to share our knowledge on things we are doing to adapt to climate change and extreme weather, as well as how we approach diversified market growing in a small-scale footprint, along with year-round food production in New England utilizing only passive solar heat in our low and high tunnels (no fossil fuels).
Educational Opportunities: Learn about: • Growing your own food within the context of extreme weather and rapidly progressing climate change. • Regenerative agriculture practices, such as no-till, cover-cropping, use of carbonaceous and living mulches, composting, beneficial insect habitat, growing on contour, permaculture techniques such as hügelkultur, and more. * Food-safety and regulatory compliance, processing and handling of produce and cut flowers, high-tunnel growing, flower-arranging, year-round vegetable production, water conservation and management, and season extension growing in New England. • Operating a farm-to-table pizza business. * Fall interns will be immersed in the changeover from summer to fall in our fields and high tunnels, learning how to grow storage crops for fall/winter sales as well as fresh greens that can be harvested and sold all winter long using only passive solar heat (no fossil fuels!). * Soil health and working with Mother Nature to grow within a balanced ecosystem. * Growing on a small-scale footprint to maximize yields and sales.
Skills Desired: A sincere interest in farming and ecological systems, good communication skills, ability to do physical labor outdoors in different weather conditions. We value those who enjoy working together as a team, as well as those able to work and complete tasks on their own. We also value having a positive attitude and having fun on the job!
Meals: We provide a stipend to purchase your own favorite foods to keep you happy and well-fed, as well as all the veggies you can possibly want!. We of course love pizza and make wood-fired pizza as often as we can both for our customers and the house. We try to do communal meals at least once a week to share our love for food and cooking with everyone at the farm (and can accommodate all food preferences as we pretty much eat anything, and love to cook with live fire as well as showcase our interests in Italian cuisine and plant-based dishes too).
Stipend: Yes we offer a stipend, plus housing, occasional shared meals, and free vegetables.
Housing: Housing is provided- The house is a spacious and beautiful antique home, with a large kitchen and shared spaces including a great front porch with gorgeous views of the surrounding rural landscape. Having a car is recommended but not required. Located 1-2 miles from 2 different state parks. Beautiful view, scenery, and location! Private rooms are spacious and very comfortable, with fantastic views of the surrounding rolling hills. The two private rooms reserved for interns have their own shared full bathroom in their own private "wing" of the house (it's a unique set-up for an antique home), as well as access to free laundry. We are a small team and household (husband and wife), with 2 very sweet and small dogs, 1 cat who spends most of his time outdoors, and no children. (No other pets allowed at this time- these 3 rule the roost!). There is plenty of privacy for all, and shared spaces are well-kept and spacious.
