Internship information
General Farm Description: A microfarm in located in Homer, Alaska. There’s about 1 acre in production. The farm includes 3 hightunnels and a 6,000 sqft outside garden. We grow mostly tomatoes in the hightunnels. Outside we grow your typical cool season crops. We sell most crops at the biweekly farmers market and also to restaurants and lodges. The farm is structured in the typical market gardening 30” bed system that most market tools are designed around.CRAFT Member Farm? No

Internship Details:
Interns will learn all aspects of market gardening. We grow a lot of tomatoes so much of the work will be pruning tomato plants, stringing them up and harvesting cherry tomatoes almost every day.Other tasks include weeding,transplanting, harvesting,watering. Small carpentry projects. Can possibly take you out fishing in Kachemak bay.
Educational Opportunities: Interns will learn about seed starting, transplanting, crop management, harvesting, and washing. Time management and efficiency. Butchering poultry and possibly wild game. Beekeeping
Skills Desired: No farm experience necessary. It’s helpful if interns know how to drive stick shift, vehicles that you can use are stick. Not required and I’m willing to teach the right person. Must be comfortable with some power tools
Meals: There will be some shared meals but interns will be responsible for cooking most of their meals. I can provide fish from the bay and local meat. Also interns can help themselves to anything growing on the farm.
Stipend: $1,000 a month
Housing: Yes, a tiny house is available. Tiny house has a kitchen with propane cook stove ( no oven), heater, fridge, shower and compost toilet.
