Internship informationGeneral Farm Description: Whisper Hill Farm is a for-profit, certified organic farm, with an emphasis on employee equity and community engagement. Entering our 13th season, we intensively grows 4 acres of certified organic vegetables, herbs, and cut flowers, in addition to 4 acres of cover crops. We attend two Saturday farmers markets (Charlottesville and Richmond), one mid-week market in Charlottesville where we distribute to our CSA members, and we sell to local restaurants and health food stores.

Employees will participate in all aspects of small scale vegetable production, including greenhouse work, transplanting, weeding, irrigation, harvesting, packaging, and marketing. Previous farm experience is not necessary, but comfortability doing physical labor in varying weather conditions is a must. Our ideal candidate has a strong work ethic and a strong interest in agriculture.
We will have a total of 4 crew members in the 2023 season and have one remaining position open. We are looking for an individual to join us from April through November of this year. Compensation is $2000/month in addition to on-farm housing in a 3 bedroom/1.5 bathroom cottage. The cottage has a washer/dryer, is equipped with central heating and air conditioning, and wireless internet is available. The only housing cost employees are responsible for is the monthly electric bill. You will have 5 paid vacation days and 5 paid sick days to use during the season. You will also be welcome to produce from the farm.
The farm is located 5 minutes from the town of Scottsville, 15 minutes from Charlottesville, and an hour and a half from Richmond. Our region has a strong community of sustainable farms — throughout the season employees will have opportunities to gather for tours of some of these operations in order to gain exposure to nearby farms.

Educational Opportunities: Whisper Hill consists of a total crew of 7 people, who work very closely with each other. There will be endless opportunities to learn! We also are part of a larger farming community and participate in bi-monthly farm tours. The 2023 CRAFT schedule has 13 farms to visit and learn from.
Skills Desired: Farming experience is not required, but ideally we are looking for folx with a strong desire to learn, an ability to work outside in all kinds of conditions, an interest in farming, and thrives in team settings.
Meals: We occasionally have farm lunches and dinners together. Farm produce is available for all employees.
