Internship informationGeneral Farm Description: White Feather Farm is a non-profit organization based in Saugerties, New York. Although we're a small farm with less than one acre in production, we have a greater mission to be an integral part of our community through food, agriculture and the arts. Ideally, we are seeking candidates who have a passion for sustainable farming, ethical practices, anyone who wants to make the world a better place. Field Workers for our 2021 growing season will have opportunities to take part in all aspects of our farm, including; Chickens, Honey Bees, Log Grown Shiitake Mushrooms, Greenhouses & Propagation, Compost & Soil building, Paddy Fields for rice, customer service/sales on market days and of course plenty of fieldwork (harvest, cultivation, irrigation, etc.) Although no previous farming experience is required, an eagerness to learn and interest in agriculture is necessary. We ask that all who apply are able to thoughtfully execute labor intensive tasks, have excellent listening & communication skills and be able to learn from, and provide constructive feedback .
Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday 7/8AM – 4-5PM with 1 hour paid break
Tentative start date is ~March 2021. These positions are seasonal and will tentatively start in March and end in November
Position: Full Time
Compensation: Hourly, Based on Experience. $15- $21/hr
-Field Work: cultivation with hand tools, hand weeding, trellising, irrigating, amending, bed preparation, planting, harvesting, processing in wash station
Educational Opportunities: Learning spaces will always be a part of our farm. Each individual should express their interests or ask for assistance in developing those interests. Our organizations goal is to serve as a vessel to empower the ones who's efforts pertain to the world of arts, equality, community and the small farm movement.
Skills Desired: Chicken egg, orchard and vegetable production
Meals: Team lunches twice a month.
