Internship information
General Farm Description: 10-acres in Bend, Oregon. We are passionate about growing cut flowers sustainably along with gourmet-quality vegetables, fruits, and herbs. We also have a small horse-boarding operation as well as agri-tourism components; flower harvesting and arranging classes, as well as drawing/painting workshops in the farm and forest landscape. We use only organic and regenerative practices, no chemical herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers. Greenhouses, windbreaks and rock walls increase radiant warmth for tender seedlings and extend the productive season. Crop rotation, cover crops, home-grown compost, and the planting of flowers that attract beneficial insects ensure a healthy and vibrant ecosystem. Our markets include our local Farmer's Markets, restaurants, weddings and events.

Internship Details:

For an enthusiastic, responsible, hardworking individual, opportunities abound for an intensive, hands-on education in sustainable horticulture and all aspects of regenerative farming. We sell cut flowers to local markets, weddings and events. Help us maintain our perennial and annual gardens, experiment with exotic greenhouse specialty crops, and learn the art of successful growing in high-desert, cold-climate conditions. For candidates with proven horse experience and references, extra work hours at a higher wage is possible in our boutique boarding stable.

Educational Opportunities: The diversity and small-scale of our farm promises a full educational journey in many aspects of sustainable farming from seed to market. Activities range from sowing seeds, orchard tree, grape vine, and berry pruning, transplanting, pinching and deadheading, weeding, amending soils, harvesting, flower-arranging and marketing. Quality control is a high priority for us and for our clients so employees will learn proper harvest stage, packaging and presentation, storage and handling techniques for premium product.

Skills Desired: Some prior experience in vegetable and/or cut flower farming would be great. Landscape maintenance and familiarity with mowers and weed-wackers would be great. Horse experience would also be a plus. Must have stellar references.

Meals: We don't provide meals but are happy to share extra veggies and flowers when available

Stipend: We pay an hourly wage starting @ $18-$20DOE (negotiable for higher wage for horse-care for folks with proven horse experience). This is a part-time position with flexible hours 15-20 hours/week. Pay is negotiable and commensurate with experience.

Housing: We do have a newly constructed one-bedroom apartment available for rent on the property - $1250 includes all utilities. Sorry, no dogs. Please note that tenants will need proof of adequate income to rent the apartment: savings or an additional flex or remote job, as the farm hours, typically, aren't sufficient to cover rent and living expenses.
