Perennial Groundcover Project Reports Year 4 Progress
The RegenPGC project has released its Year 4, Quarter 4 progress report on Regenerating America’s Working Landscapes to Enhance Natural Resources and Public Goods through Perennial Groundcover. The project is developing and de-risking perennial groundcover systems, in which a perennial cover crop is planted once and then persists for multiple years alongside annual crops such as corn and soybean. The approach has lower management requirements than conventional cover cropping, yet can deliver multiple ecosystem services, including conserving soil resources, reducing nutrient export, enhancing carbon sequestration, and suppressing weeds. The report details progress in developing viable systems and encouraging adoption.
