Petition on ‘Pasture Raised’ Standards for Eggs Open for Comment
The American Pastured Poultry Producers Association (APPPA) has submitted a petition to both USDA FSIS and the FDA, urging the FDA to align egg labeling requirements for the “pasture raised” claim with the existing USDA FSIS definition already used for meat and poultry. APPPA maintains that FDA requirements that equate “free-range” with “pasture raised” production are confusing to consumers. The petition has been accepted by both the USDA FSIS and the FDA and both agencies are accepting public comment. APPA has posted instructions on how producers and consumers can comment on the petition.
