TERRA Platform to Upscale Global Agroecology and Agroforestry

The Government of Brazil, with technical support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), has launched a global platform designed to scale resilient and restorative agroecology and agroforestry. TERRA (Together for the Expansion of Resilient and Restorative Agroforestry) will fast-track the transition of the world’s family farmers from conventional farming practices to agroecological and agroforestry techniques. TERRA will strengthen collaboration between governments, producer organizations, and research institutions and will draw on the extensive experience of its founding partners to support family farmers, Indigenous Peoples, and traditional and local communities. TERRA will focus on five main areas: strengthening cooperatives and producer networks; building capacity for farmer-to-farmer exchanges and innovation; channelling blended finance to grassroots agroecology and agroforestry initiatives; supporting climate-resilient and native seed systems, bioinputs and technologies; and promoting inclusive value chains, public procurement policies, and digital markets to boost farmers’ livelihoods.
