Video Series Highlights Hibiscus Production
Hibiscus sabdariffa (Roselle) could become a cash crop for small-scale farmers. Alabama farmer Jacqueline McArthur is exploring the opportunity in a two-year project supported by Southern Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education, titled “Growing and Promoting Hibiscus sabdariffa (Roselle) as a Cash Crop for the Small-Scale Farmer in Alabama’s Black Belt.” McArthur has posted nearly 40 very short videos on production, processing, and use of roselle. The videos cover planting tips, field prep, harvesting calyces, and creating value-added products, with documentation of successes and lessons learned.
