Internship informationGeneral Farm Description: Local Roots Farm is a 15 acre diversified vegetable farm located in the Snoqualmie Valley, near the town of Duvall, about a 40 minute drive from Seattle. We direct market all our produce through a 250 member CSA, at our on-farm stand, and to local restaurants.

We are hiring several full-time crew members for 2020. One or more full seasons of experience on a 5+ acre vegetable farm is preferred, but not required. Crew members all share a wide range of tasks, with a typical weekly schedule of 2 field work days (transplanting, irrigation, weeding) and 3 harvest and pack days. Our main season crew is made up primarily of long-term employees, many of whom have worked here for several years or more. We prefer to hire people who are interested in mulitple-year commitments, but this is not a requirement.
We are also hiring for our tomato harvest crew. These postions are either one or two days a week (Wednesdays and/or Saturdays). These jobs begin in May or June, and continue through the end of Septepmer. Tomato crew begins with pruning and trellising plants in our tomato greenhouses, and transitions to harvest work in early July. We will train you, no tomato-related experience is required.
Educational Opportunities: We do not offer a formal internhip program, but you will learn a lot through your daily participation. We have over 20 former employees/interns who have gone on to successfully run their own farms. All aspects of crop planning, finances, and farm decision making are available to employees. You willl learn the most by being proactive and asking lots of questions.
Skills Desired: - Prior farm experience is preferred, but not required. - Experience working outdoors in all weather conditions. - Abilty to lift 40 pounds and work in a kneeling/crouching position. - Drivers license required, driving experience and willingness to drive a delivery route in Seattle strongly preferred.
Meals: Lunch is provided Monday-Friday. Employees have access to farm produce.
Stipend: Pay DOE, starting @ $13.50/hour.
Housing: Employees may rent a travel trailer or a room in a shared house.
